What will I learn with my online tutor during our online tutorials?
NCEA students will learn how to identify, select and use Drama techniques. These are Voice, Body, Movement and Space. NCEA students will also look closely into the NCEA Drama elements, NCEA Drama conventions and NCEA Drama technologies which can broaden the understanding of how to add depth to a performance.
The online tutor will provide a variety of examples, activities and texts to practice with, as well as, acting alongside the NCEA student to support actions and dialogue.
Why is it important to learn how to analyse and use a script?
NCEA students must learn how to perform in a scene as it is the steppingstone towards a full production process. All students need to know how to apply purposeful techniques to a character and follow stage directions. They also need to react to other characters on stage and understanding the situation within the scene. By understanding the Drama elements, NCEA students are able to make purposeful decisions that support the playwright's story.
Practical and written tasks can be explored in these lessons.
What if I wish to only focus on preparing for the Live Performance exam?
The best part about one-on-one tutorials is that it is catered to the individual. This means the online tutor will cover the areas the NCEA student mainly needs support with. The online tutor has a variety of activities and resources to use to build confidence with NCEA Drama exams. This includes making sure students know how to read a question properly and answer it with examples and evidence.

What will I learn with my online tutor during our online tutorials?
NCEA students will learn the rules and processes for sitting an NCEA Drama exam. The NCEA student will learn how to collect information for their study prep, read an NCEA exam question properly and follow key words appropriately, as well as practice adding examples, evidence and a critical opinion to a typical NCEA exam question. The online tutor will provide a variety of different typical NCEA exam questions and texts to practice with.

It is important to mention that all NCEA Drama students must watch a live performance (play, musical, school production etc.) in the same year. They cannot write about a performance they have seen in the past (meaning the year previously and beyond). There are many performances available to watch that are free, cost effective and/or viewable online.
Why is it important to learn how to prepare for Drama exams?
It is important to be prepared for Drama exams as the NCEA student may feel overwhelmed when in the official exam. This is because it is a different set up to their usual assessments. NCEA students have an allocated time and strict NCEA conditions, therefore having a plan and being able to know more about what to expect can alleviate some of the pressure. As the majority of Drama assessments rely heavily on a practical approach, NCEA exams can feel out of place, so this skill will need more support than one that is consistently practised.

NCEA students undergo two NCEA external examinations. It is appropriate that the NCEA student studies the NCEA Drama approved texts in the classroom.

In our online tutorials, the online tutor will view your NCEA Drama course outline to become familiar with specific text choices and NCEA external assessments you are enrolled in, then the online tutor will work together with the NCEA student to practice answering typical NCEA exam questions.
What if I am feeling anxious about the NCEA Drama exams?
NCEA students may feel anxiety over their NCEA external exams, so it is comforting for them to practice the process of sitting exams with our online tutors. As we are qualified teachers who have taught to NCEA examinations, our online tutor knows how to alleviate the pressures of sitting exams. We do this by practising answering typical NCEA external questions and talk about the process.

What will I learn with my online tutor during our online tutorials?
NCEA students will learn the history and influences behind a theatre form of their choice. The NCEA student will analyse the theatre form's practical and theoretical aspects by viewing and acting out a variety of situations and resources. The online tutor can provide advice towards the NCEA student's choices, suggest ideas, and mentor the student through effective techniques that could be used within their work, however, cannot solely direct a NCEA Drama performance.
Why is it important to learn the history behind theatre forms?
NCEA Drama students need to understand how theatre has become what it is today and what has been the influence behind it's transformation. Many different scripts and performances have developed from the ideas of long ago. When NCEA Drama students learn how the ideas have been shaped and explored, they will find a new appreciation for the way in which story telling was performed and the circumstances that came about during, within and after the theatre form was developed.

In our NCEA Drama online tutorials, the online tutor and the NCEA student will practice responding to a variety of informal and formal NCEA approved texts, so the NCEA student can feel confident knowing how to undergo a theatre form analysis suitable for their NCEA Drama internal and external.

What will I learn with my online tutor during our online tutorials?
NCEA students will learn the process behind of putting on a performance. They will practice selecting a message and developing a structured storyboard and/or script that will communicate this message. The choices the NCEA student will make will require purpose and justification, so the online tutor will make sure to guide the NCEA student through the Drama elements, conventions, techniques, technologies that can be used to communicate their message. Students will develop an awareness of effective placement of dialogue and stage directions to enhance tension and in turn understand how to develop a captivating performance.

The NCEA student will build their confidence with identifying, analysing, and using elements, conventions, techniques and technologies, so they can use these skills in their NCEA Drama examinations and within their NCEA internal assessments.
Why is it important to learn to communicate messages through art?
If NCEA students have a broad knowledge of how to perform a message to others, then they will be able to express themselves through this creative platform in their NCEA assessments, as well as, outside in the artistic world. By learning a variety of ways to portray messages, such as using conventions and technologies, NCEA students will learn how to entertain, inform and/or persuade audiences in a captivating and impactful manner.
What if I struggle with recording my ideas and my work doesn't make sense?
It is very common for NCEA students to know what they want to write but putting it down on paper is another story. This is because both parts of this process are two different kinds of skills; one is planning and thinking, while the other is implementing and writing. This is why our online tutor places importance on creating activities where the NCEA student practises using both skills together, so it becomes natural for the NCEA student to achieve.
It is also a requirement for NCEA Drama Level 2 and 3 students to be able to direct their work, independently. This is why our NCEA Drama online tutor provides consistent opportunities for NCEA students to develop and justify their own work and focus on how to build and sustain messages throughout a story.
